At St James we always look at how we can best support our children to be successful individuals. This goes beyond academic attainment and includes opportunities and experiences that children should have to support them to be ready for the future. 

 

As a staff, we have put lots of thought into the opportunities and experiences we feel our children should have before they leave us. I am pleased to share with you our St James Promise - promises for opportunities and experiences that children will have in each phase of school to help them be ready for their future. 

 

We have chosen 5-7 age appropriate activities and/or experiences for each phase of school (Reception, KS1, LKS2, UKS2). By the end of each phase, all children will have had the opportunity to take part in the activities.

As well as the specific experiences for each phase, there are some that we feel all children should be able to access throughout their time at St James. They are:

• Money skills. We are now in an age where it is less common to have ‘real’ money, it is far more common to pay for items with a card. Because of this, children’s understanding of money has been affected. As part of our St James Promise, all children will have opportunities to develop their understanding of money and budgeting throughout their time with us. This may be through specific lessons that focus on money and budgeting or could be through experience days that are given to all children.
• Time to reflect and be quiet. Having dedicated time to be still, to be quiet and to reflect is important. In every worship, time to be still and reflect is included. Time will also be given at points throughout the year to support children’s mental health and wellbeing.
• Opportunities to be a ‘Good Samaritan’. The parable of the Good Samaritan underpins our school vision. We provide and encourage lots of opportunities for children to both understand and demonstrate the values that the Good Samaritan teaches us.
